Training Practice

Our practice has a long and proud history of supporting medical education. We were first established as an accredited training practice in the 1980’s. Following a short break due to retirements, we were successfully reaccredited in 2016, with Dr Paul as our lead trainer.

Bishop’s Close Surgery has also been recognised by Newcastle University for its outstanding contribution to medical student teaching (2018–2019).

Medical Students

We regularly host medical students, most of whom are in their final year of training. You may be offered an appointment with a student as part of their learning. All students are fully supervised by an experienced GP.

GP Registrars

GP registrars are fully qualified doctors undertaking specialist training to become General Practitioners. They are an important part of our clinical team and may occasionally seek advice from a senior clinician during your consultation.

Video Consultations for Training

As part of their professional development, GP registrars and medical students may use video recordings of consultations for training and feedback purposes, under the supervision of a GP trainer.
